Orangeroc.com Website Revisions - May 2010

Orangeroc Website Revisions

On this project, I converted the Orangeroc website from plain HTML to PHP, making it easier to maintain in the future, with items such as the navigation located in one spot. If a change needs to be made, it can be made once instead of on every page.

One of the goals of this project was to remove the flash sub-navigation and the extensive use of iframes to allow better Search Engine Optimization (SEO) of the portfolio and employee bio pages. The flash was recoded as interactive Javascript, with a new effect added on the portfolio detail pages. Portfolio items now "slide" from left to right as you view them. See an example here.

Another item created as part of this effort was a new PHP Contact Form. This form uses a CAPTCHA to prevent spam, sends an info email with a vCard attached, and sends a confirmation email.

I coded the online program guide for HIFF's Spring Showcase in April 2010 from scratch, drawing from an internal database of film information. This automatically generates the film listing page, individual film detail pages (which contain photos, videos, etc) and the schedule page.

This program guide is being improved over the summer, with a new version ready in time for the much bigger Fall Festival in October 2010.

You can see this online program guide in action here: http://hiff.org/program/

I was contracted by Orangeroc on this project, to make a working website for Andrew Lauren Interiors from their graphic design.

This involved a rotating banner on the front page, a "login" area which sweeps down from the top of the page, lightbox photo galleries, custom styled dropdown menus and more.

This new website for the Hawaii International Film Festival was created over the summer of 2009, and launched in August with the unveiling of the festival's key visual, "What do you see?".

It is based on the Drupal Content Management System, while the old site was just plain HTML with a few server side includes. The implementation of this CMS made it much easier to update and create content on the site. HIFF now has photo galleries, an active blog which can automatically post to Twitter and Facebook. The template for this site can change, and often does, since every spring and fall HIFF has a new look for thier film festivals.

Honolulu Box Office is a ticketing company, and I initially was just maintaining their plain HTML website, but decided to create a small database to hold event information and created a PHP script for the homepage to display it.

I also implemented a scrolling bar of event images at the top of the page, with links down to the event details.

I designed and coded this website for a local team of salsa dancing instructors, Salsa No Ka Oi. It holds information about their class schedule, location, instructor bios, press, and a photo gallery. There is also a Blogger blog integrated into the front page of the website.
